Fintechs: Building Back Better with Humanity
Could the Covid-19 crisis be the platform upon which we create a more resilient, inclusive and fairer financial services ecosystem? By seizing the opportunity presented by the huge spike in demand for SME lending, the Fintech sector has shown itself to be supportive, long-term in its thinking and above all human.
On November 26th 2020, BrightTALK hosted an online event co-ordinated by The Financial Services Forum and Teamspirit, in which a select group of providers in the financial services sector were invited to discuss current trends in the marketplace.
AskIf founder and CEO, Samantha Bamert was invited to speak during the event, where she discussed her passion for supporting small businesses who have struggled to secure funding through mainstream lenders.

Fair and Inclusive Funding
Throughout the event the panel discussed the current climate within the financial services sector, the gaps that a need to be addressed within and how fintechs can, and are, filling those gaps, creating a fairer, more inclusive system.
“There are definitely pockets within the industry of individual people and firms that really want to deliver fair, inclusive practices.” Said Sam in response to the question about whether she believes the financial services sector is ready to be inclusive and fair.

Following on from this, Sam discussed the motivations and mission behind the creation of Ask Inclusive Finance.

Other areas discussed during the the hour-long webinar include:
- The risks associated with the increased use of tech and online services for financial transactions.
- The importance of reputation and transparency.
- Diversity and equality in the finance sector: the historic exclusion of certain groups and demographics and how these can be addressed.
- The language and messaging used by the financial services and how this will need to be adapted in the future to be more inclusive.
